The International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme at GSIS focuses on the total growth of the developing child, touching hearts as well as minds and encompassing social, physical, emotional and cultural needs in addition to academic development. At GSIS the students in Pre K through to Grade Five participate in this program.
The PYP draws on research and best practices from a range of national systems with a wealth of knowledge and experience from international schools to create a relevant, engaging, challenging and significant educational framework for all children.
The backbone to this program is the IB Mission Statement which has been stated in simple terms through the IB Learner Profile. As you can see below, the Learner Profile lists characteristics that all parents and teachers would hope to see in their children. It is our belief that teachers foster the understanding of these qualities and characteristics through inquiry-based approaches to learning. Teachers cultivate a wonder and curiosity in students that promotes lifelong learning, growth, respect for others and intercultural understanding to best prepare them for the future.
The PYP curriculum is aligned with our school mission statement, philosophy and goals. It engages our students in studies about issues and themes of universal significance and encourages them to become active learners and critical thinkers. It also connects our school to a wider international school network and an internationally respected educational organization, therefore stimulating and facilitating continuous growth and collaboration.
