On Thursday, April 17th, both the Lower Secondary and Upper Secondary Bands from GSIS attended the KAIAC/KIMEA Large Group Festival at Chadwick International School. Students prepared pieces to perform in front of a set of judges, who give comments and a rating (Platinum, Gold, Silver and Bronze).
The Lower Secondary Intermediate Band, directed by Ms. Kimberly Joslyn, performed three pieces for the judges: "Great Locomotive Chase" by Robert W. Smith, "On a Hymnsong of Philip Bliss" by David Holsinger, and "Sousa Classics" by Victor Lopez.
The Upper Secondary Concert Band, directed by Ms. Melissa Lyons, performed two pieces: "Counterbalance" by Todd Stalter and John Philips Sousa's "Liberty Bell March."
The bands received their ratings after a clinic session with notable band directors from around Korea, who suggested areas of improvement for future performance. The Intermediate Band was awarded a Silver rating, and the Concert Band was awarded Gold. Both bands were given excellent comments about their level of musicianship, style, and stage presence.
The GSIS Music Department continues to be proud of the hard work and dedication that their student musicians show. Bravo!
