Earlier this month, eleven students in the upper secondary school with their theater arts teacher, Ms. Erika Gilhus attend the Arts Society of International Students (ASIS) theater program held at Dwight School in Seoul. ASIS is a committee started by the international Dwight schools around the world for like-minded programs from different schools to join to gather in a celebration of the theater arts.
There were seven participating schools this year in Korea: GSIS, KIS Jeju, Dwight, CCS, SIS, BIS Canada, YISS. The planning has been in the works since September, and participating school first met to plan in October. The event showcased introductory performances by each school and workshops were held to help students in their specialized fields such as directing, set, acting, tech, playwriting and others. They were put into inter-school groups of 8-11 students, ensuring a director, playwright and tech in each group. They created, rehearsed and performed within 24 hours! It was a great networking opportunity for both teachers and students.
The GSIS participants walked away with a plaque commemorating their participation and showcasing their hard work.
