GSIS Varsity, Junior Varsity and Elementary teams competed in the 2nd KAIAC Chess Tournament for the academic year 2016-17.
A team of 19 GSIS students participated and gave the teams from KIS, BCC, DPCL, ICS-P, SFS, TCIS & YISS a tough time. After months of training, hard work and dedication to the game, Anish Roy, Grade 2, emerged as GSIS Elementary School's best player.
Anish Roy secured 2nd position and he was the star of the day. Since KAIAC only allows Grade 3-5 students in the elementary group games, Anish was granted special entry into this tournament, due to his hard work and high skill level. Out of the seven rounds, Anish lost only one time and won the rest of the six games with ease.
After looking at his performance yesterday, I am with 100% confidence declaring him the "Youngest Grandmaster of GSIS". Please congratulate him when you see him. It is worth noting that all of Anish's competitors were older than him, yet this little light of GSIS out-shined everyone at the tournament.
Varsity and JV team did their best and had a wonderful time playing with other school participants. We could not get any position this time but we will work hard and try our best for top positions in the next April 15th KAIAC Chess Tournament at SIS.
